The Behavioral Medicine Boot Camp
A well-trained group leader is one of the most important behavior change tools in a physical activity or dietary intervention. While most research-based behavior change programs are designed to be guided by a coach, coaches with training in the science of behavior change are few in number. As a result, these well-designed programs are not available to most of the people who could benefit from them.
The WFU Behavioral Medicine Lab’s student coaching program is designed to give undergraduate students the skills needed to serve as an effective behavioral coach. Over approximately 8 weeks, students are exposed to contemporary psychological theories of behavior change. They complete experiential activities designed to give a deep understanding of core behavior change concepts, and work as a cohort to design intervention content and lead simulated coaching sessions. Shadowing and student coaching opportunities may be available upon completion of the course.
